The Cobalt Apex features what Japanese scissor masters call the YL design—a specialized blade geometry that's prized for its exceptional cutting power and precision.
The foundation is the Hamaguri-ha (clam shell) convex edge, which provides extraordinary sharpness while maintaining structural integrity. What makes the Apex special is how Japanese craftsmen have enhanced this design with reinforced cutting power at the tip.
In traditional Japanese scissor making, this is known as "刃先のカット力" (Hasaki no katto-ryoku) or "cutting power at the blade tip"—a prized characteristic specifically for scissors used in precision work.
This specialized geometry creates an exceptionally powerful cutting action at the tip—the area most used for precision techniques and detailed work. The result is a shear that cuts with authority through even the most resistant hair types.

"I've been using the Cobalt Apex shears in my salon for about 5 months now. As someone who specializes in precision cuts and bobs, these have seriously changed my cutting game.
What stands out most is that tip strength. When you're doing point cutting or detailing around the ears, these just bite through the hair without any pushback. And for those clients with super thick or coarse hair? These cut through like nothing else I've used.
The balance is spot on too. Even after a full day of precision cutting, my hand feels good. That's rare with shears this precise – usually you sacrifice comfort for control, but not with these.
The VG-10 cobalt is no joke. Haven't had to touch up the edge at all in 5 months of daily use. The tension adjustment is nice too—locks in place and doesn't drift during the day.
I'm actually surprised at how much I use the extra stuff that comes with it. That texturizing razor is perfect for finishing touches, and having the carbon fiber comb means one less tool to switch between.
I went with the 6.0" size. Perfect for precision work while still having enough length for longer cuts. If your work demands clean lines and control, especially on resistant hair types, these are definately worth considering. Not the cheapest option out there, but the performance justifies the investment."

Before judging sharpness, check the tension. New professional shears can feel loose or tight after shipping, and a small tension adjustment often fixes hair folding, pushing or uneven cutting.
Clean and dry the blades after use, oil the pivot area, and avoid cutting paper, fabric, plastic, wire or anything other than hair. Use a professional sharpener familiar with hair shears.

Bought Ichiro scissors a couple years ago. I’m ready for a Japanese made one. I’ve decided on Juntetsu and lucky me it was on sale and fit my budget. It’s definitely a step up from my previous scissors. It cuts very clean (wet cutting); I can see the difference after the hair dries- more neat.
Love the pouch that comes with it. I don’t regret buying this. And this company has been my go to for hair shears.
Love my new shears. The color is beautiful, slightly more gold than rose which I am perfectly happy about. My only complaint is that I feel like the end of the shears aren't quite as sharp, but they may just need to be tightened slightly.
I owned three pairs of “Sword” scissors. Kamisori, sensei Fit and now Juntetsu.
I like the smooth cutting feeling of Kamisori. It lasts 5 years. Sensei Fit seems more durable but it isn’t as sharp and smooth as the others. I don’t know how durable this pair of shear last. I purchased it last week. It cuts sharp and smooth. Slightly sharper than Kamisori. They are all very light and balanced shears
Bought these to reduce the strain with the heavy pairs but I was worried it would be too light and not cut. Leave it to Japan to make something half the weight and twice the strength and cutting performance . Balance is top notch . Has made in japan so you known it’s real
Been using Juntetsu since 2019! Just replaced my 6.0” pair I dropped. You can totally get 5000 cuts from these. Japanese shears are the only choice. The best

Still pretty new to the game but my mentor told me to invest in good shears early. These VG10s were def a budget stretch. but what a difference. Only been using them about 3 months but they're still crazy sharp. Gonna be my main shears for sure.
Saturday order received on Friday in SG. It wasn't as good as I had hoped. My old scissors was pulling hair as I thinned the hair roots hair and cutting my hair shorter as well. I'm not sure if it's intended to be this way. The new pair of scissors are worth the cost to have this kind of high-end quality. I am happy with the silky smooth and thinning motion.
Super light! I have been a barber for 5+ years and I am honestly surprised by how light and sturdy these are. Sharp cuts, but the big win for me is lightweight and good ergonomics for my wrist and elbow.

Not as sharp as I thought they would be. I can hear the cutting which leads me to believe they are dull. When I cut the hair I should not hear the blade cut the hair, it should be smooth and quiet.
